Linda grew up in Shellharbour Village, the youngest of six children. She attended Warilla High School where she was elected school captain and awarded Dux of Year 12. She went on to study Arts and Law at the University of Wollongong and was one of the first graduates of the University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Law to receive honours in 1994.
Following her Practical Legal Training through the College of Law (functioning as a school of the University of Technology) and her admission to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1995, she began her career as a litigation solicitor in Wollongong. This experience exposed Linda to a variety of jurisdictions from criminal law through to civil litigation and she appeared in Local, District and Supreme Courts.
Linda then moved to the University of Wollongong, co-ordinating and teaching a range of subjects including:
- Criminal Law;
- Torts;
- Anti-discrimination law;
- Legal Ethics; and
- Law in Society.
This experience further developed Linda’s communication and analytical skills and taught her to view Law in a broad context. She prides herself on being able to explain complex legal theories into easy to understand concepts. Her love for teaching law took a back seat when the second of her four children arrived, and she spent the next ten years raising them full-time with the help of her husband, Matthew, and the beautiful Gerringong community.
Linda joined the Carter Ferguson team in 2013 with a deep desire to serve the local community that had blessed her so richly. She has the necessary compassion and dedication that is required to assist clients holistically and with a minimum of fuss. Since joining Carter Ferguson, Linda has worked in the following areas of law:
- Wills;
- Estates – with a focus on Family Provision Claims;
- Contracts;
- Commercial and Residential Leasing; and
- Employment Law;
At the beginning of 2017, Linda commenced working with Sandy Rendel in Carter Ferguson’s specialist property division. She is developing a knowledge base in:
- Property development;
- Local Government; and
- Sales and Purchases.
Linda understands that just as woven threads are stronger than a single strand, the best results are achieved when skilled professionals collaborate together. She is delighted to be a part of the Carter Ferguson team and to work with clients and their accountants and financial advisors to deliver optimum solutions to any legal problem.
